Research Program

The Center for Economic Studies (CES) and its network of Census Research Data Centers (RDCs) support and encourage research activity using Census Bureau microdata to improve Census Bureau programs. CES and the RDCs provide access to researchers, federal agencies, and other institutions to non-publicly available Census Bureau data files.

Center for Economic Studies Dissertation Mentorship Program

The Center for Economic Studies wants to assist doctoral candidates who are actively engaged in dissertation research in economics or a related field using U.S. Census Bureau microdata at a Research Data Center. Program participants will be assigned one or more CES staff economists as mentors, who will advise students on issues related to the use of Census Bureau microdata. Program participants will also be invited to visit the Center for Economic Studies at Census Bureau headquarters in Washington D.C., to meet with staff economists and to present research in progress. CES Staff Awarded Commerce Department Bronze Medal

CES Disclosure Officer Arnie Reznek, Lead RDC Administrator Lynn Riggs, and systems specialist Bill Yates were awarded the Commerce Department's Bronze Medal on December 17th for their roles in the development and implementation of CES' Web based Disclosure Avoidance Request Tracking System (DARTS). This innovation automates the disclosure request, review and release process for active research projects via the CES project management system, making the entire process speedier and more efficient. Congratulations to Arnie, Lynn, and Bill on their singular achievement and well deserved recognition.

Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS) Launched

The U.S. Census Bureau announces the release of the Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), a data series that allows users to track annual changes in employment for growing and shrinking businesses at the establishment level.
